Lukashenko compares present-day Brest to city of his youth

BREST, 6 September (BelTA) – The present-day Brest resembles the city of my youth, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked to the personnel of the construction organizations, engaged in the Brest Western Bypass Road project, on 6 September, BelTA has learned.

“It has changed. Brest has become a modern city. It is an absolutely different city, even the border, where I spent my military service period, has become absolutely different – well-tended, beautiful,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state said that he was sorry that little attention was paid to Brest and Mogilev. “Gomel and Minsk are beautiful central cities. Vitebsk is a host of the Slavianski Bazaar festival. Polotsk is a good city. So is a small town of Turov. We have spruced up the historical sites. A lot has been done in the rural area, including agro-towns, regional centers, urban-type settlements, everything needed to be developed. The most unpleasant thing is that Brest and Mogilev lagged behind most of all,” the president said.

According to the head of state, the city’s 1,000th anniversary has become a good reason to beautify Brest. “You have done a lot. I saw everything from above. Flying over the city many times, I saw you building and landscaping here,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
