Lukashenko: Belarusians will get the world’s safest nuclear power plant

Lukashenko: Belarusians will get the world’s safest nuclear power plant

OSTROVETS, 9 October (BelTA) – The world’s safest and most contemporary nuclear power plant is being built in Belarus. The matter was discussed during the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Sergei Kiriyenko, Director General of the Russian state nuclear power engineering corporation Rosatom, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko reminded that the decision to build a nuclear power plant in Belarus had been made in a difficult situation since Belarusians still remember the tragedy of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. “We agreed that we were going to build the best power plant there is. And we are going to build it in compliance with the highest standards as an example for others,” said the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked: “The specialists we have brought here not only from Belarus but the entire world have concluded that our way of building the power plant is unique.”

During the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Sergei KiriyenkoThe President thanked Sergei Kiriyenko for sensitive attitude towards Belarus and for insistence. “I think Belarusians will get a perfect power plant. It will also represent kind of a new age in the construction of nuclear power plants for the Russian Federation, which is the leading supplier of peaceful nuclear energy solutions,” stressed the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the construction project involves not only civil engineering enterprises but also industrial ones. Participation in the project is a boon for the latter in these difficult times. In turn, Sergei Kiriyenko confirmed that the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be the safest one and the most contemporary nuclear power plant of the three-plus generation. He said that the power plant is unparalleled in the world for now. It is a state-of-the-art design that focuses on safety and quality, said Sergei Kiriyenko.

The Rosatom head mentioned the good work done by Belarusian contractors. “It is heavy work but they have accumulated a lot of qualification and experience,” he stated. Sergei Kiriyenko went on saying that Belarusian companies — civil engineering ones and those that make equipment — will be needed for consequent projects to build more nuclear power plants across the globe. The Russian company has already taken orders for these projects.
