Lukashenko: Belarusians are building bridges into peaceful future

GRODNO, 6 August (BelTA) - Belarusians are building their bridges into a peaceful future, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a ceremony to inaugurate the Vostochny road bridge across the Neman River in Grodno on 6 August, BelTA has learned.

"They say that every new bridge is a road to the future. Others should not doubt that we, Belarusians, are building our bridges into a peaceful future," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The president noted that on this day he would like to address not only residents of the region but those in the neighboring countries. "I would like to address ordinary people - perhaps your friends, relatives, business partners who live on the other side of our state border. Those who, unlike their politicians, want peace and friendship," he said. “No matter what, our diplomatic position has not changed. Grodno Oblast is the western gate of Belarus. It is always open to those who come in peace, who respect our way of life and our values. This is the gate and you are welcome. But those who come with a sword…"

"May Vostochny bridge that we opened today become a bridge of friendship, connecting countries and peoples," the head of state added.
