MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarusian healthcare has things to be proud of, there is no need to drag everything through the mud, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his Address to the Belarusian people and the Parliament on 18 December, BelTA has learned.

“We have things to be proud of, and there is no need to drag everything we have through the mud,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state noted that Belarusian surgeons perform high-tech operations in cardiology and neurosurgery, traumatology and transplantology. The country is making every effort to fight for the lives of children with the most severe prognoses. Innovative technologies have been introduced and are being improved in pediatric oncology.

Belarus keeps its finger on the pulse in the development of reproductive medicine. In just the past three years, Belarusian doctors have performed over 5,000 IVF procedures. Nearly 2,000 long-awaited babies have been born, the president said.

At the same time, according to the head of state, the issue of the quality of medical care is a very sensitive and complex topic. It is as complex as the work of a doctor.

“I understand that dealing with people who diagnose themselves, treat themselves via the internet, let their illness progress, and then expect miracles from the doctor is difficult. But patients’ complaints, which sometimes have to be addressed by the Presidential Administration and other government agencies, often have merit,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president assured that such appeals will always be kept under control: this is a matter of society’s trust in the entire healthcare system, which, after all, operates in a commendable manner. “This has been acknowledged by many who came back from Poland and Lithuania after experiencing their supposed paradise,” the head of state added.

“As I have said: if you need dental treatment, go to Belarus. It’s high-quality and cheaper here. Well, if you went there, let them do this. Why are you coming back here?” the head of state said.
