Lukashenko: Belarus will not change its policy towards Russia

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - Belarusian people will not allow changing the policy towards Russia whoever is in power here, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said  in an interview with Belarusian and foreign political observers on 13 November, BelTA has learned.

“I know what the trend is in our relations today and what the mass media in Russia are trying to do. Don't even think that today's leadership (not only the president) want to betray Russia, to change the course in favor of some countries. This has never been the case and will never be. Even if these protesters come to power, the people will not let them change the policy. They think they take to the streets, get money from out there and shake up the society. They will not succeed: the Belarusian people will not let them do it,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The head of state noted that some mass media present the current stage in the Belarusian-Russian relations as “Lukashenko had to turn to Russia due to the circumstances”. “Look, Lukashenko has never turned away from Russia,” the president stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that he had betrayed neither the Belarusian-Russian interests nor the leaders of the neighboring country, although sometimes journalists write that the Belarusian president is playing a double game. “I will always say directly and openly what I am going to do. I will never cheat and lie. Lukashenko’s policy in relation to Russia has always been one and the same,” he said.
