Lukashenko: Belarus values time-tested friendship with Turkmen people

ASHGABAT, 30 March (BelTA) – Belarus values the time-tested friendship with the people of Turkmenistan, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a ceremony to open the Belarusian Embassy in Turkmenistan on 30 March, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said that Turkmenistan’s embassy opened its doors in Minsk less than a year ago. The heads of state both attended the opening ceremony then. “In the language of diplomacy this speaks volumes. The construction of the embassies confirm the strategic nature of our partnership, symbolizes the time-proved friendship of the Belarusian and Turkmen peoples which we value highly. The workers of the embassy should understand this and do their best to make our ties stronger and to promote our relations further,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

Over the years of independence the two states have established robust and effective ties in all the areas. “They are based on the principles of mutual respect and trust. The successful implementation of a huge joint project, the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing factory, Central Asia’s biggest facility to produce potash fertilizers, is a testimony to this,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

The head of state is confident that the new building of the embassy will be a comfortable place for Belarusian diplomats to work. This means that new examples of successful contacts between the two countries will not be long in coming. “Let the new initiatives to promote the Belarusian-Turkmen dialogue be implemented in full,” Alexander Lukashenko wished.

The President also expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat authorities, and also the Turkmen and Belarusian constructors who built the embassy.
