Lukashenko: Belarus’ enemies stop at nothing

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Enemies of Belarus go to extraordinary lengths, but they have miscalculated, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he presented state awards to representatives of law enforcement on 20 August, BelTA informs.

“Our opponents, or to put it straight, enemies, stop at nothing. You know it better than I do. However, they have miscalculated. People in uniform remained loyal to the nation and their duty. And the overwhelming majority of Belarusians did not support this blitzkrieg. You, your colleagues, representatives of other power structures were the wall that stopped the muddy stream of sham democratic values forced upon us,” the Belarusian leader said.

The president emphasized that each of the awardees proved their loyalty to the country in combat conditions, showed true patriotism being fully aware that their Motherland is behind them. “It may sound a bit dramatic. You felt it and did it simply because it is your job, our job. It is our mission to do it nicely, efficiently and responsibly,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

The head of state emphasized that the opponents set a goal to seize Belarus that is a key to the entire post-Soviet space. “The country did not fall to its knees, did not flinch; it is acting like the Brest Fortress, so they seek to destroy it or take it over. They use whatever means necessary, up to terrorist attacks, ritual murders, an armed mutiny. This is exactly what you opposed and are opposing,” the president said.
