Lukashenko: Achievements of scientists enhance Belarus’ international status

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Achievements of Belarusian scientists enhance the status of the country in the international arena, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his message of congratulations to the scientific community. The message was read out by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Igor Buzovsky at a meeting dedicated to the Belarusian Science Day, BelTA has learned.

"Today knowledge plays a crucial role in increasing the competitiveness of the economy, improving the quality of life. Education and science are key to ensuring independence and sovereignty of the state, enhancing the cultural, intellectual and spiritual level of the nation. In our country, great attention is paid to science schools, and assimilation of R&D solutions. Achievements of Belarusian scientists receive international recognition and enhance the country's prestige in the international arena, and bring significant benefits to the society,” reads the address.

On behalf of the Presidential Administration Igor Buzovsky wished Happy Science Day to the scientific community of Belarus and presented diplomas of merit and letters of thanks. He stressed that today the work of scientists is so important that it cannot be overestimated.

The Belarusian Science Day is celebrated in the last week of January. In 2016 the celebrations are held under the motto Science to Knowledge Economy. On 29 January the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus held a meeting and an exhibition of R&D products. The projects were presented by the Industry Ministry, the Education Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences, Healthcare Ministry, the Food and Agriculture Ministry, the Emergencies Ministry, the State Military Industrial Committee, Belneftekhim, Minsk City Hall, Belarusian Innovation Fund, BRSM Youth Union and Adani company. All in all, the exhibition featured about 400 R&D products.
