Latushko: Paris’ unity following recent tragedy can help normalize situation in Ukraine

MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Paris’ unity following the recent deadly attacks can help normalize the situation in Ukraine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko who took part in the Paris march to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attacks on 11 January, told Belarusian TV channels, BelTA has learned.

According to Pavel Latushko, France is showing the spirit of nations’ unity today. The peace march in Paris was attended by leaders of various countries. The diplomat believes that it provides an opportunity to discuss common measures aimed at addressing big international conflicts. “It can become a motivating factor for a more profound assessment of the events worldwide and elaboration of joint approaches to the normalization of the situation in the conflict regions, i.e. Middle East and Ukraine,” he said.

The 11 people killed during the attack on Charlie Hebdo offices included photographer and journalist Michel Reno married to a Gomel resident. Pavel Latushko said that the Embassy of Belarus in France had sent condolences to the wife of the French journalist to Clermont-Ferrand. According to Pavel Latushko, Clermont-Ferrand and Gomel are twin towns, which once again stresses the world’s interrelation.

As was informed, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko extended condolences to President of France Francois Hollande in connection with the deadly terrorist attack at the headquarters of the magazine Charlie Hebdo.

More than 1.5 million people marched in the capital of France on Sunday in a show of unity. Partaking in the rally were French politicians, heads of state and government, representatives of the diplomatic corps of different countries.
