Kochanova: Children get a lot of attention in Belarus

POLOTSK, 24 December (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova visited the social and educational center in Polotsk District and took part in the New Year's event, BelTA has learned.

The speaker of the upper house of parliament noted that she gladly joined the Our Children charity campaign. “I always enjoy seeing children, especially in the run-up to such magnificent holidays as Christmas and New Year. in our country, children get a lot of attention. It is important that they have people who care for them. Great respect to the employees of social shelters, orphanages and everyone who works with children, because all children are our children," Natalya Kochanova noted and added that she is always happy to to visit her hometown.

Natalya Kochanova wished the children to be smart, courageous, and to love their city and the country. She gave the director of the center Viktoria Koroleva a gift certificate for a multi-board and sweet gifts to children. Polotsk District Executive Committee gave the center a sand drawing table.

The social and pedagogical center was founded at the Polotsk orphanage in 2011. It provides shelter and rehabilitation services, assistance to foster families and also works to prevent family dysfunctions and social orphanhood. The center's staff provide social, pedagogical, and psychological assistance to children, their parents and legal representatives. Today the center takes care of nine children.

The nationwide charity campaign Our Children will be running from 10 December to 10 January. The campaign includes New Year's performances across the regions of the country. Heads of the government, local executive and administrative bodies visit orphanages and family-type homes, hospitals, foster and adoptive families, congratulate children on the New Year and Christmas, give presents and provide assistance in solving various problems. Public associations and other organizations also join the charity campaign.

Natalya Kochanova also held a working meeting with priests of the Polotsk and Glubokoye dioceses of the Belarusian Orthodox Church on 24 December.
