Kochanova: Belarus will keep sending humanitarian aid to refugees on border with Poland

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarus will continue providing humanitarian aid to the refugees stranded on Belarus’ border with Poland, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova told reporters following the meeting hosted by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss the situation at Belarus’ border on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

According to Natalya Kochanova, at present Belarus is considering a possibility to set up a heated tent near the makeshift camp established by the refugees at the entrance to the Polish checkpoint of Kuznica. Humanitarian aid, including food, will be provided here.

“Belarus maintains uninterrupted supplies of humanitarian aid. I can assure everyone once again that we will keep doing it, no matter what, because these are human beings who found themselves in a difficult situation. Belarus will do everything to give them food and warm them up,” Natalya Kochanova said.

Many state-run organizations and government agencies have joined the effort, she said. “To date, almost 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid have been distributed among the refugees. Tents have been set up where the refugees can have a meal and warm themselves up. There are 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid in stock,” Natalya Kochanova said. Public associations, including the Belarusian Women’s Union, the BRSM Youth Union and the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, help collect humanitarian aid.

The refugees are given food regularly, they also have an opportunity to get warm clothes and other items, and seek medical help. Doctors have already helped 60 refugees. On 15 November, six people applied for medical assistance.
