Independence, sovereignty hailed as biggest achievement of Belarusians

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko called independence and sovereignty the biggest achievement as he answered questions of cadets and professors of the Military Academy on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

Sovereignty and independence are the biggest achievement that we have. I am proud and happy to be the first president of this sovereign country. What we have accomplished together is the biggest achievement. We have built the first sovereign and independent state in our history,” the Belarusian leader said.

Commenting on recurrent speculations about threats to Belarus’ sovereignty, the head of state asked a rhetorical question: what kind of person would let such things happen after building and taking the lead of the independent state. “Would you really destroy it with your own hands letting it become part of some other country, be it Poland or Russia? I will never agree to that,” the Belarusian leader underlined.

“I have clear-cut boundaries that I cannot cross. The most important thing is to protect (first of all, through your intelligence, talent and work) the sovereignty and independence of our country. Therefore, please, disregard speculations about the loss of sovereignty and independence of our country,” Alexander Lukashenko added.
