MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sebastian Coe told journalists on 8 April that he is ready to assist Belarus in the organization of international athletic competitions, BelTA has learned.

“We discussed the possibility of holding athletic events in Belarus with the Belarusian head of state some time ago. As IAAF president, I will be working with my colleagues from the European Athletic Association to assist Belarus in the organization of such events,” Sebastian Coe said.

As for the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships that Belarus is bidding to host, the final decision will be made by the European Athletic Association. The experts will evaluate the infrastructure, the availability of the necessary specialists, the spectator attendance rates, the performance of the Belarus Athletic Federation, and several other criteria. Sebastian Coe pointed out that Belarus scores well on all of them.

“We appreciate Belarus’ eagerness to host European and world-level events,” Sebastian Coe added.
