MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Pope Francis and Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz had a brief talk on the way to a synod of bishops in the Vatican, BelTA has learned.

Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz met with Pope Francis by accident on the way out of the Saint Martha House where the archbishop was staying for the duration of the synod. Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz and Pope Francis talked briefly about church affairs in Belarus. The former said he hoped the Pope would visit Belarus some day.

Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz also told Pope Francis that the former head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belarus, Metropolitan Filaret was celebrating the 40th anniversary of his appointment to Belarus. The Pope asked to convey his greetings on the occasion to Metropolitan Filaret. Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz was pleased to do so over the phone later on.
