Guryanov: Certain progress in Belarus-USA rapprochement process

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – There have been certain improvements in the relations between Belarus and the United States, Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Guryanov said during an online conference hosted by BelTA on 31 March.

“Belarus has always been interested in full-fledged partner relations with the United States. Even in the most difficult years for the Belarusian-American cooperation the two countries continued cooperation in ensuring global and regional security, preventing illegal transit of nuclear materials. Mutual efforts have recently helped the two countries improve the relations. There are grounds to talk about certain normalization of the bilateral relations,” Alexander Guryanov said.

In his words, Belarus and the United States continue cooperation in law enforcement, establish interregional ties and develop cooperation in science, culture and education. In 2014 New York hosted the Belarusian Investment Forum with the participation of the Belarusian Prime Minister. Mogilev and Houston signed a partnership agreement. For the first time in the history of the Belarusian-American relations Belarus appointed its honorary consuls to the United States.

“The priority areas of the Belarus-U.S. cooperation include trade and investment. Belarus is interested in ensuring access for Belarusian producers to the American vast market and in raising investment and loans, development of production cooperation,” Alexander Guryanov said.
