Good time for advancing Belarus-Romania relations

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – The current moment is favorable for advancing Belarus-Romania relations, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Belarus Viorel Mosanu during the meeting with Belarusian MPs on 18 November.

The Romanian diplomat said: “I’ve come here with a very specific mandate — the development of bilateral cooperation. I believe today’s moment favorable because it is taking place against the background of development of bilateral relations in several aspects. First of all, political ones.”

Viorel Mosanu noted that in the last 1.5-2 years Belarus and Romania had a series of very good contacts at the level of the ministries of foreign affairs. In particular, meetings involving the ministers and the deputy ministers took place. “We have plans for advancing these contacts in the future,” stressed the Ambassador. Among other things a visit of the Romanian minister of foreign affairs to Belarus will be organized.

Apart from that, Viorel Mosanu pointed out that Belarus-Romania relations are advancing against the background of a new level of Belarus-EU relations.

“I think the two sides fully understand that it is necessary to develop trade and economic cooperation. All the prerequisites are available for it because our economies are similar and can mutually complement each other. There is a great potential for development,” said the Ambassador while talking about Belarusian-Romanian relations.

In his opinion, there are also good prerequisites for cultural interaction between the two countries. “I have already met with the culture minister. Opinions were exchanged. It was reassuring. We are already preparing a certain cultural program in Belarus. The first concert will take place in early December,” added the diplomat. He explained that the concert program will be demonstrated in Minsk and Grodno. The Ambassador intends to go to Grodno together with the artists. In Grodno the diplomat intends to discuss regional cooperation with the local authorities.

The Ambassador reminded that he arrived in Minsk a short time ago — 1.5 months ago. He is the first head of the Romanian diplomatic mission in Belarus in the last 19 years, who has the ambassador rank.
