MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - Ghana is looking forward to a truly strategic partnership with Belarus, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana told journalists following his talks with President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus in Minsk on 8 June, BelTA has learned.
John Dramani Mahama emphasized that agriculture remains a key issue in Ghana’s development. “We plan not only to increase food production but also to develop a modern sector built on advanced technologies, which will strengthen our food security and improve the living standards of rural populations,” he said.
“We would like to use these cutting-edge technologies to ensure the most efficient performance of our agricultural sector. To achieve these goals, we are seeking opportunities for cooperation, and we see them in Belarus,” the Ghanaian leader said.
According to him, Belarus enjoys an excellent reputation in agricultural mechanization, agricultural machinery production, and overall in the level of knowledge and research in the agro-industrial sector. “We are counting on the formation of a truly strategic partnership, within which experience, technologies, and investments will be shared,” John Dramani Mahama stressed.
“With Ghana’s potential and the experience and knowledge that the Republic of Belarus possesses, we will be able not only to ensure Ghana’s food security but also to achieve mutually beneficial results for both countries,” the head of state is convinced.
The country’s leader stated his readiness to deepen economic cooperation with Belarus in several areas. In particular, there are plans for cooperation in the mining sector, energy, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and the humanitarian area. For example, a visit by a BelAZ delegation is expected soon to discuss possible joint steps.

John Dramani Mahama drew special attention to the importance of cooperation against the backdrop of the geopolitical and economic challenges of the modern world, difficulties in ensuring food security for many countries, climate change issues, and military conflicts.
“In such circumstances, building equal, respectful partnerships is extremely important. We are ready to build such relations with Belarus across all sectors of industry and the economy,” he emphasized. “Representing the Global South, we are ready to build such relations with all countries that are willing to create a more balanced and inclusive world order.”
The meeting with the Belarusian president reflects this philosophy, the Ghanaian leader added. “We share the view that we must work toward achieving shared prosperity,” he explained.
“I am confident that our talks will open up a new page in the history of relations between our two countries and will demonstrate productive cooperation to the entire world. And the results will be not only the signed documents but also concrete actions that will bring tangible benefits to our citizens,” the president of Ghana concluded.
