Gajovic: Minsk book fair will contribute to Belarus-Serbia relations

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – The Minsk book fair where Serbia has the status of the guest of honor will contribute to the development of relations between Belarus and Serbia, State Secretary for Media at the Ministry of Culture and Information Aleksander Gajovic said at the opening of the 25th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair, BelTA has learned.

Such events facilitate the development of relations between the two countries in culture and other fields, Aleksander Gajovic said.

Aleksander Gajovic noted that it is a great honor for Serbia to be the guest of honor of the Minsk book fair. Serbia’s exposition is presented by the National Library that celebrates the day of its founding on 28 February. The Serbian exposition features the literature of the First World War period and the publishing products by the library itself.

The Guest of Honor’s exhibition program will feature a presentation of the Serbian National Library “Serbian Literature during WWI”, meetings with well-known Serbian prose writer Goran Petrovic and Dajana Lazarevic, the translator of Maksim Bogdanovich’s book of poems Vyanok (Wreath) into Serbian, and also the Serbian-Belarusian literary meeting “Artistic and Scientific Tandem: Ivan Charota and Dragan Lakicevic”.

Several publications will be presented during the expo, including a book of modern Serbian poetry released in Belarus, The Red Flowers of Kosovo Field (a book by Nevena Vitosevic-Ceklic), Russian translations of Saint Sava’s Studenicki Tipik and The Life of Saint Simeon, compilations of Belarusian poems in the Serbian magazine Povelja, and Serbian publications of the Belarusian magazines Maladost, Polymya, Neman, and the Litaratura i Mastatstva newspaper. The House of Friendship in Minsk will host an evening dedicated to the Serbian literature.

The 25th Minsk International Book Fair highlights the themes of the Year of Native Land and the international cooperation of Belarusian writers. Taking part in the expo are 360 exhibitors from 32 countries.

The 25th Minsk International Book Fair is taking place at the national exhibition center Belexpo (14 Pobeditelei Avenue) from 28 February to 4 March. The event is organized by the Information Ministry of Belarus, the Minsk City Hall, and the book selling companies Belkniga and Makbel. Entry is free.
