Future stadium, swimming pool in Minsk to meet FIFA, FINA standards

Future stadium, swimming pool in Minsk to meet FIFA, FINA standards

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – The national football stadium and the swimming pool that will be built in Minsk thanks to technical aid from China will be compliant with standards of the international football federation FIFA and the international swimming federation FINA, BelTA learned from Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov on 6 August.

The official said: “Technical economic aid will come from China. A Chinese company will be the general contractor. Chinese companies, which have come up with an exclusive solution, will be the designers. The world has not seen such civil engineering and functionality solutions yet. The stadium and the swimming pool will be built in line with international standards approved and authorized by the relevant federations – FIFA and FINA.”

In his words, preparations for building the sport facilities proceed in accordance with strict procedures because international technical aid means a clear-cut course of action. “The Economy Ministry virtually has a monthly schedule. We now expect the head of state to sign the relevant decree. Once the decree is signed, the practical stage of the work will begin and a protocol will be signed between two government agencies – the Belarusian Economy Ministry and the Chinese Commerce Ministry,” Nikolai Snopkov said.

A conceptual design, a preliminary design, and production drawings will be made in line with the document. The construction of the stadium and the swimming pool is supposed to begin in July 2020 at the latest.

Nikolai Snopkov added that the idea to build a national football stadium and a swimming pool meeting international standards in Minsk was first put forward during the meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping in 2016. The agreement was formalized in 2017 during negotiations of the two leaders at the Belt and Road forum in Beijing. Xi Jinping demonstrated mock-up models of the sport facilities to Aleksandr Lukashenko in April 2019.
