Full cooperation with Belarus seen as important for Azerbaijan

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Full cooperation with Belarus is important for Azerbaijan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Latif Gandilov said at a function held on 4 June to mark Republic Day of Azerbaijan and 100 years of the country’s diplomatic service, BelTA has learned.

The head of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission considers the contacts with Belarus in political, economic, scientific, cultural and educational areas as highly important. He spoke about the history of the Republic Day celebration in Azerbaijan. On 28 May 1918, Azerbaijan proclaimed independence. Although the state existed for only two years, it managed to lay the foundation for the future huge transformations. In 1991, the Azerbaijani people regained their sovereignty and became an equal member of the international community. Since then, the country has made great progress in its development.

Belarus’ Vice Premier Vladimir Dvornik, for his part, hailed the rapidly developing relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan and focused on the priorities of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the economic and investment areas. The two countries enjoy a long-term friendship and effective cooperation in the international arena. The vice premier also mentioned the upcoming visit of the president of Azerbaijan to Belarus to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games.

Vladimir Dvornik said that Belarus and Azerbaijan have good prospects for further development of contacts in all the areas.

The event included national songs and music of Azerbaijan. On display were also three paintings made by Azerbaijani ambassador’s spouse Naili Gandilova in Belarus. Last year, the National Art Museum hosted Naili Gandilova’s personal exhibition.
