Friendship groups of Belarus, Romania can play important role in enhancing cooperation

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – The friendship groups of Belarus and Romania, set up in the parliaments of the two states, will play an important role in enhancing cooperation, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at the meeting with Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor-Viorel Melescanu on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

According to the speaker, not long ago Romania was visited by head of the working group on cooperation with the Romanian parliament, MP Olga Petrashova. A number of productive meetings were held to discuss important issues, including in the trade and economic sector. “The intensification of the activity of the friendship groups will play an important role in enhancing cooperation between our states in general,” Vladimir Andreichenko is confident.

The speaker of the House of Representatives also expressed opinion that Belarus and Romania need to develop contacts in the international arena. In his words, the 26th OSCE PA summer session which was held in Minsk in July 2017 is a good example. “The Romanian delegation was very active at the session. We cooperated closely and supported each other,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to him, this year Belarus and Romania are marking 25 years of diplomatic relations. According to the speaker, over these years a good foundation has been laid for the development of political, trade, economic and intercultural communications. Vladimir Andreichenko stated that a lot has been missed and this has benefited neither the states nor the European Union. The speaker noted that Belarus praises the recent trend in the intensification of contacts between Belarus and Romania and also between Belarus and the EU.

In turn, Teodor-Viorel Melescanu conveyed the greetings and the best wishes from the heads of the two chambers of the Romanian parliament. He added that the speakers are determined to continue expanding contacts with the Belarusian MPs.
