FM: Belarusians abroad help promote national culture and ideas

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - The Advisory Council for Belarusians Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus plays a significant role in promoting Belarusian culture and ideas overseas, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov said during a meeting of the council at the MFA, BelTA has learned.

The minister emphasized that the council’s activities have intensified considerably, which is especially important in the current circumstances, when Belarus is facing great pressure and many foreign media outlets present the country in a negative light.

Maxim Ryzhenkov thanked the participants for coming to Belarus to attend the meeting of the Advisory Council. “Despite a certain cautious attitude toward your participation in our event on the part of the authorities of some states, you came, and that is the value of coming to Belarus and taking part in today’s discussion, which is intended to assess what is happening in the world today,” he stressed.

The minister thanked the representatives of the Advisory Council for their work, regardless of circumstances, including their participation in events to mark the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Maxim Ryzhenkov noted: “Most of all, I would like to thank you for the united effort in supporting events to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War, which took place in your countries.”

In his opinion, the support of these events by Belarusians abroad is a diplomatic signal that Belarusians are united and that there is strong backing on which one can rely.

Representatives of Belarusian diasporas abroad, in their conversations with journalists, emphasized the importance of such meetings for their future work.
