FM: Belarus at the heart of open geopolitical struggle

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) - The interests of the world's players converged around Belarus and there is an open geopolitical struggle, Belarus’ Ministers of Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told the media after the meeting with the head of state on foreign policy, BelTA has learned.

"The interests of a number of geopolitical players have converged around our country and there is an open geopolitical struggle, no matter how hard some try to deny it. Therefore, we have to respond to the undesirable challenges and threats that arise around Belarus. I must emphasize that they are absolutely artificial in nature," said Vladimir Makei.

He said that the interference in the internal affairs of Belarus is obvious. Belarus raises this issue with its partners during bilateral contacts and in international organizations.

“States such as Belarus, medium in size and potential, have to consider their interests in all directions. Russia is definitely our main, strategic partner and ally, just like China. This, however, does not mean that we should focus only on two directions, no matter how anyone reproaches us for trying to pursue a multi-pronged policy. How can we give up on mutually beneficial areas of cooperation with distant-arc countries, European countries which account for more than 50% of our exports? Russia is our main partner and  ally. We stay committed to further expansion of our cooperation with Russia, but we will not abandon our multi-pronged policy,” the minister said.
