FIBA: Belarus can host big international basketball competitions

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – NOC First Vice President Maxim Ryzhenkov met with FIBA Sports Director Kosta Iliev at the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus on 28 January, BelTA learnt from the NOC press service.

Attending the meeting also was First Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Gagiyev and NOC Secretary General Anatoly Kotov.

“I know the Belarusian basketball very well. Belarus’ modern arenas make it possible to host competitions of the highest level. Belarus has good chances to host big international tournaments. The Belarusian Basketball Federation has been closely cooperating with the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the Sport and Tourism Ministry. Such cooperation is vital for achieving great results,” Kosta Iliev said.

The parties discussed the opportunities of organizing various international basketball tournaments in Belarus (the guests were shown the sport facilities in Minsk), 3x3 streetball development and the issues related to strengthening Belarus-FIBA cooperation.
