Family capital program seen as investment in human development in Belarus

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The citizens who are eligible for the family capital will receive these payments, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Sergei Rumas, the Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Chairman of the Belarusian Football Federation, on 15 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state inquired about the ongoing activities of the Development Bank. “Have we managed to implement the ideas ranging from leasing to the family capital? We are speaking about the sum of about half a billion of US dollars. This is a huge sum, and it is good we took this decision in due time. This money is working today and shall be paid to the recipients: today’s kids who will be grownup people tomorrow and who will be able to spend this money on education and other things. That is the investment in human capital, human development,” the head of state said.

The president also asked about the status of other programs of the Development Bank: support of children, development of the wood processing industry. He also asked to report on the situation in the financial market in general. “For me it is important to know you viewpoint,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko was also interested in the situation with the Belarusian football, one of the most popular sports in the country. “People may have questions: money is invested, and where the returns are? As a banker, you must understand this better than me,” the president said.

Belarus’ best football coaches are expected to join the meeting later. They are set to lay out their vision of the problems in the sport. “We have agreed to consider certain activities in the area. We will talk the matter over and start working,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
