Expert: Belarus is well represented at Eurovision 2018

LISBON, 7 May (BelTA) – Belarus will give a stunning performance at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, famous journalist and music critic Arthur Gasparyan told BelTA.

“No matter how many points ALEKSEEV will score in the first semi-final, his show will be eye-catching. It has aroused a great interest among fans and journalists, so the singer has accomplished a certain task already. Anyway, Belarus will not be left unnoticed,” Arthur Gasparyan said.

He believes that it is great that Nikita Alekseev represents Belarus, because he is well known not only in Ukraine, but also in neighboring Belarus and Russia where is popular and loved. However, taking into consideration Eurovision’s format, the singer will still have to assert himself. “Here you are a dark horse, unless you are an international star, as was the case with the Tatu group that did not have to show who they are. Therefore, one needs to put in the song and the show everything that once made ALEKSEEV a sensation in the Russian-language music scene when he released his hit Drunken Sun. We will have to see whether he will be able to do it,” Arthur Gasparyan said.

According to him, it is paramount to fulfill that challenging task that was set by the well-known stage director Oleg Bodnarchuk. “The director has set the tasks the artist had never dealt with, so it will be not only a debut for him, but also a kind of major experiment,” Arthur Gasparyan said. He believes that it is not a good idea to view Eurovision as an experimental ground. Quite the opposite, the artist should be placed in a comfortable environment and do things he is used to.

Overall, Belarus’ entry is scenic and eye-catching, he added. The critic wished Belarus’ representative good luck.
