Events in Belarus described as serious lesson for other post-Soviet countries

Events in Belarus described as serious lesson for other post-Soviet countries

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) -  Events in Belarus should be a serious lesson for other post-Soviet countries, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview to Belarusian and foreign political observers in Minsk on 13 November, BelTA has learned.

“Experts have done everything to control people at the subconscious level. Developments of American specialists were probably at the heart of all this. When I watched the election campaign in the United States and the events after the election, and then when talking to the Russian president, I told him: ‘They deserved this’. They've been meddling in presidential elections everywhere,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “The events in Belarus is a very important lesson for you. Kazakhstan and Russia are big countries. It will be difficult for them to cope with this if they are not pro-active.”

"It seems to me that people were fooled and duped. Someone got into their heads and souls. They succeeded. This is especially evident in Belarus," the president added.

During the interview, the head of state mentioned the article by one of the Ukrainian bloggers, who recently visited Belarus and shared his impressions of the protests in Minsk. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Ukrainian rented an a apartment in an expensive apartment complex and was amazed to see its well-off residents come out of their luxury apartments and on to the streets to protest. "Belarusians have gotten too fat. They do not know how others live after the color revolutions!" the president quoted the blogger as saying.

According to the head of state, there were no reasons for protests in Belarus and nothing foreshadowed them. "They worked secretly, creating cells at enterprises, especially state-owned ones. Then they started to fan up tensions through these cells of 3-5 people," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. They worked in the same way with other enterprises, he added.

"Something happened to us. I'm sure this is just the beginning. Believe me, you'll remember what I was saying in six or twelve months and you'll see that this is just the beginning. Behind all these events is an attempt to redivide the world," the president stressed.

When asked when the conflict in Belarus can be resolved, the head of state said that the protests have radicalized and they will not subside for no reason. "These are militants. They never back down. This is their chance," the president said. "They are dreaming of keeping the protests alive till spring. They expect that ‘the economy will be in a more difficult state, almost on the brink of collapse, and that it will be easier to deal with them them". They mean to deal with me. This is their goal., and they are supported by you know who.”

The state is taking measures to curb illegal activities. The sources of funding from outside Belarus were identified. "I instructed to look into how they are funded. They have already started transferring money to bank accounts of protesters, militants. We took control of it, and they did not like it," Aleksandr Lukashenko explained. “We do not mind [legal transfer of money from abroad]. Just explain what kind of money it is and what these transfers are, as it happens in any state. We don't take anything from anyone.”
