Egypt seeking to attract Belarusian companies to Suez Canal FEZ

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Egypt wants to attract Belarusian companies to the Suez Canal Economic Zone, First Undersecretary of the Trade and Industry Ministry of Egypt Ahmed Antar said during a Belarusian-Egyptian business meeting on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

“Egypt welcomes possible participation of Belarusian companies in developing the free economic zone of the Suez Canal and increasing the share of local content. This will benefit both countries,” Ahmed Antar noted.

The agenda of the current meeting of the Belarusian-Egyptian trade commission in Minsk includes further enhancing cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, education, science and technology, and launching joint production of equipment for export to third countries.

According to Ahmed Antar, trade between the countries is growing and is mainly driven by Belarusian trucks, tractors, loaders, products of chemical and food industries account.

Ahmed El Laithy, CEO of the law firm El Laithy & Associates, told journalists that the Egyptian business community is interested in cooperation with Belarus. “We can launch cooperation in a lot of areas, as the governments of our countries have laid the basis for it. Information technology and agriculture are very promising areas. Egyptian businessmen are interested in Belarus, they need more information about the spheres they can invest into,” he said.
