Egypt commends Belarus’ role in peaceful settlement of regional conflicts

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) - Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry stressed Belarus’ contribution to the peaceful settlement of regional conflicts during a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 28 August, BelTA has learned.

“We we welcome your efforts to promote and develop Belarus, to ensure stability, to enable favorable conditions and progress in Belarus and in the region in general. Your contributino the peaceful settlement of regional conflicts is noteworthy, too. This shows your wisdom, your understanding of how important peaceful settlement is,” Sameh Shoukry noted.

The minister underlined that this is his first visit to Belarus and he hopes that it will be fruitful. “I do realize the importance of this visit. I have been instructed by Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to convey his best wishes. He fondly recalls his visit to Belarus in early 2017 that laid the groundwork for the further promotion of our relations,” Sameh Shoukry said.

He confirmed that Egypt views the relations with Belarus as important and hopes to reap the benefits they can bring for the economic development. “Today the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs and I agreed that both ministers should guide the relations, remove the existing problems, and take on the role of coordinators of mutual ties. We need to ensure there are no obstacles to the development of economic relations at the political level,” the minister summed up.
