Dyusembayev: Brest Fortress symbolizes the heroism of Soviet people

BREST, 21 June (BelTA) – Brest Fortress is a symbol of the heroism of all Soviet people, First Deputy Governor of Atyrau Oblast of Kazakhstan Gumar Dyusembayev told reporters on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus’ Brest Oblast and Brest Fortress are associated with the heroism of young people from different parts of the Soviet Union who were the first to face the unexpected attack of the Nazi army. They fought till the last shell and the last breath defending the fortress, their country and people. Many Belarusian and Kazakhstani young people took part in the battles of that war. Some 57,000 people in Atyrau Oblast left home to fight the Nazi invaders, and 25,000 of them never returned,” Gumar Dyusembayev said.

Dyusembayev: Brest Fortress symbolizes the heroism of Soviet people“The commemorative events in the Brest Fortress are a tribute to the memory of these heroic people, thanks to whom Belarus and Kazakhstan are sovereign nations today,” Gumar Dyusembayev added.
