Do Van Mai emphasizes Belarus’ contribution to Vietnam’s fight for independence

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian people made a big contribution to Vietnam’s fight for independence, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Belarus Do Van Mai said at the event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of South Vietnam’s liberation and the country’s unification held at the House of Friendship on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, 40 years ago, in March 1975, South Vietnam’s liberation army launched a strategic offensive to liberate Thai Nguyen. “In this violent war the Vietnamese people devoted all their energy for the sake of one goal, i.e. to liberate South Vietnam. It was a hard-fought victory and the memory of the past is sacred. It was the victory of the joint forces of the people, the international solidarity of the nations. It is not only the Vietnamese people but also Belarusian veterans who stood shoulder to shoulder in that difficult period for us,” the Ambassador said.

Ambassador Do Van Mai expressed gratitude to all the Belarusian war veterans for the assistance provided in the liberation of Vietnam. The Ambassador also spoke about the heroism of the Belarusian people in the fight for their independence and the importance of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
