Dapkiunas: Belarus seeks cooperation with China within UN funds, programs

MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Belarus shows interest in cooperation with China within the UN funds and programs in the implementation of international technical assistance projects in Belarus in the area of energy efficiency, sustainable energy, environment and healthcare, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Andrei Dapkiunas said in an interview to the SB Belarus Segodnya newspaper, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Dapkiunas noted that confidence and mutual support describes Belarus-China cooperation in the United Nations in many issues. “The protection of human rights is of course among them. The both countries uphold the principles of sovereign equality of states, speak against politicization of the human rights issue and the adoption of the UN country resolutions, stand for the objective assessment of the situation with the human rights in every country,” he said.

Besides, according to Andrei Dapkiunas, the Chinese delegation has actively supported Belarus’ initiative on the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons in the recent years. China acted as a co-author of the relevant Belarusian resolution and provided considerable support to Belarus in the talks on the plan.

“The delegations of Belarus and China provided valuable mutual support during the consultations regarding the resolution on the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The Chinese delegation supported Belarus in its initiative to plant a Tree of Peace and Unity at the UN Headquarters in New York on 5 May and made part of the group of the countries-initiators of the corresponding addresses to the General Secretary and the Chairman of the UN General Assembly,” Andrei Dapkiunas said.
