CSTO chief: Belarus’ Eurasian Charter initiative deserves close global attention

MOSCOW, 15 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian initiative to create the Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st Century deserves close attention from the international community, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov said in his article for the Russian National Defense Magazine, BelTA has learned.

Taalatbek Masadykov noted the significance of the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, which played a vital role in maintaining peace and establishing dialogue on the continent during the Cold War. “Pursuing a similar goal, the Republic of Belarus put forward a draft of the Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st Century a few years ago. We see the rationality of the Belarusian side’s approach and are convinced that this initiative deserves close attention from the international community,” he emphasized.

The CSTO secretary general also stated that the organization is relying on cooperation with its traditional international partners, namely the UN, the SCO, and the CIS, while also developing relations with newer associations such as the African Union. “We also see the expedience of resuming engagement with the OSCE. After a long hiatus caused by the stance of several member states of this organization, my meeting with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu took place in May 2026. The good news was my colleague’s sincere focus on supporting a sustainable dialogue between our organizations. I remain convinced that OSCE has significant potential that can be utilized to fulfill its original mission – strengthening security in Europe,” he said.

Speaking about NATO, Taalatbek Masadykov stated: “At one time, we proposed a dialogue to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. These actions yielded no results. Nevertheless, the CSTO remains committed to a pragmatic approach and does not believe that prospects for dialogue do not exist.”
