MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Conditions for promoting innovations have improved in Belarus since the country became independent, BelTA learned from Sergei Usanov, Academician Secretary of the Chemistry and Earth Sciences Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).

Sergei Usanov said: “A number of Belarusian scientists left the country in the 1990s due to small salaries and the lack of proper conditions for their work. Everything changed radically in the years of independence. A lot has been done for the sake of science. The government and the leadership of the Academy of Sciences have enabled excellent conditions for promoting innovations. Good physical infrastructure is now available. We implement our R&D products in practice.”

In particular, Belarusian scientists have secured considerable accomplishments in the area of pharmaceutics. “In addition to designing new recipes and substances our enterprises make medications to satisfy needs of the Healthcare Ministry. A lot is being done for agriculture, too: mineral fertilizers and pesticides. No branch of the national economy is left unattended,” the scientist noted.

In his words, many Belarusian R&D products are well-known abroad. “All the institutes are intent on publishing information about the most prominent R&D results in international highly-rated journals. Every year the Academy of Sciences hosts a contest to name the top 10 scientific accomplishments in the area of fundamental and applied research. The publication of these accomplishments in international editions with a high impact factor is a mandatory requirement,” Sergei Usanov said.

The top 10 scientific accomplishments of 2019 include Belarusian R&D products in various spheres, including physics, chemistry, food, nature management, radiobiology, and history.
