Competitive, open information space created in Belarus

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – A competitive and open information space has been created in Belarus. Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich made the statement during the joint session of the boards of the Education Ministry and the Information Ministry on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

“We have a competitive and open information field, this is why the topicality of quality work of the national information space is obvious,” said the official.

The Information Minister noted that in the modern world the role and influence of mass media are constantly on the rise. People get to know about economic and cultural events only after they learn about them from television, newspapers, radio, and the Internet. “We have 124,000 registered domain names in the .by zone, 17,000 names in the .бел zone, 1,500 printed mass media, and over 200 TV programs,” said Lilia Ananich.

The joint session of the boards of the Education Ministry and the Information Ministry was focused on training reporters. In particular, participants of the session were expected to discuss what professions Belarusian universities should offer in view of the new information conditions, how effective undergraduate training can be arranged in mass media for university students, and how the education process should be organized for the sake of forming a quality national information space.

Providing jobs to young professionals was also high on the agenda. “Everyone, who acquires knowledge, should have an opportunity of investing this knowledge in the development of the national economy,” Lilia Ananich was convinced.
