Coale: Lukashenko offers sound advice on resolving conflict in Ukraine

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gives good advice on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale told the media following the talks with the head of state in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“I had a conversation with your president about various matters. He helps, offers advice on what to do regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine. His advice is very sound. [We discussed] different issues of this kind,” the U.S. representative said.

Regarding progress toward a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and Belarus’ role in this process, John Coale highlighted the long-standing good relations between Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Your president has a long history of relations with President [Vladimir] Putin and is in a position to offer him advice. This is very useful in the current situation. They have been friends for many years and have the level of relationship needed to discuss such matters. Naturally, President [Vladimir] Putin may accept some advice and not accept others. But it is a way to help the process,” John Coale remarked.
