Claims about temporary nature of new Belarusian government dismissed as nonsense

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Speculations claiming that the new Belarusian government has been appointed to run the country only till the election day are nonsense. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he made a number of personnel decisions on 31 August, BelTA has learned.

“The appointment of the new government is being hotly debated. Some say it is a technical government and will stay in power only till the election day. Trust me, as I appoint you and other officials, I don’t think you will stay only till the election day and then everyone will be replaced. Total nonsense. Contrariwise, I want you to work after the elections. I want you to work after my time is over. Because you represent a new generation of leaders,” stressed the head of state.

“It is only natural. Renewal is a necessary thing. We don’t want stagnation. Stagnation in economy and society begins with stagnation in HR work. This is why it is quite natural that you – the current generation of leaders – are 20-25 years younger. It is normal. We cannot employ younger people because they will not have the experience for the job,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that it is the new generation of leaders, who will be responsible for the country now and in the future. “This is why I wouldn't want any of my appointments to be seen as pro tempore. Contrariwise, I want you to show your professional skills before the elections so that people would feel they can trust you. And if we go to the polls together, it will be a plus for me. This is why ‘till the elections' is not the goal. Other people will be appointed if you don't produce results. And if you break the moral principles befitting executives and civil servants. Our society will never accept that,” said the head of state.

The president mentioned justice as a very important principle: “You must be absolutely just. Belarusians will never tolerate injustice. It is the deepest trait of the Slavonic people. Particularly Belarusians.”
