Chinese expert praises Belarusian nuclear power plant’s personnel training system

OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 1 June (BelTA) – A good personnel training system has been created by the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Fang Fuping, Vice President of Sanmen Nuclear Power Company, as participants of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) conference on new units of nuclear power plants visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant’s construction site near Ostrovets on 1 June.

Fang Fuping said: “I have a positive impression after visiting the Belarusian nuclear power plant. I think the project will be a great success after the nuclear power plant is commissioned.” Fang Fuping has worked in the nuclear energy industry for over 30 years. He also spoke in positive terms about the system used to train personnel for the Belarusian nuclear power plant and educate personnel using a full-scale replica of the central control room.

Hasna Al Blooshi Director for Nuclear Safety Culture at the UAE company Nawah Energy Company Hasna Al Blooshi remarked that the Belarusian experience of implementation of the nuclear energy program is interesting for other countries. “I would like to thank Belarus for the opportunity to visit the conference on new power-generating units and for hospitality. The tour of the nuclear power plant construction site was truly impressive. I received a lot of information here, including about the education and training center and the personnel training methods,” she added.

The international conference of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 30 May – 1 June to discuss support for new power-generating units of nuclear power plants. The event is supposed to allow sharing the best international practices in operating nuclear power plants for the sake of reaching the highest safety and reliability standards. Specialists are expected to discuss support for new power-generating units, safe nuclear practices, licensing, personnel training, and other matters.

During the tour of the Belarusian nuclear power plant participants of the conference were made familiar with the power plant’s information center, progress of the construction work. They were able to see the construction site and the education and training center.

WANO unites all the operators of nuclear power plants (a total of about 450 power-generating units). The organization is intent on improving the safe operation of all the nuclear power plants in the world. The state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant joined the organization in 2016.
