Chinese companies provide $1.6m in assistance to Belarus amid COVID-19

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - Assistance of Chinese companies to Belarus to fight COVID-19 has exceeded $1.6 million, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Cui Qiming told BelTA.

“During the COVID-19 epidemic in China Belarus provided great moral and financial support to our country,” the head of the diplomatic mission said. “The sincere assistance provided by Belarus at the time of China's difficult struggle against the epidemic will forever remain in the memory of our people. The Chinese people stand together with the Belarusian people as they are fighting again COVID-19,” the ambassador noted.

Many Chinese companies, which work in Belarus, actively contribute to the efforts to donate medical products to Belarus. “As of 15 April, the total amount of medical humanitarian assistance provided by Chinese companies amounted to about $1.64 million,” Ambassador Cui Qiming said.

China Merchants Group provides logistical support for these humanitarian goods, including clearance, storage and shipment from Beijing to Belarus.

“I would like to name at least some of the Chinese companies that provide assistance,” the ambassador noted. In particular, it is China Merchants Group; Charity Foundation of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and Li Shufu; SinoMACH National Engineering Corporation; China's CAMC Engineering Corporation; Bel Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.; 25th Company of the China Railway Construction Corporation; CITIC Construction; ZOOMLION; Beijing Uni Construction Group; North China Power Engineering Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group; Metallurgical Corporation of China MCC15;  China National Electrical Engineering Company; Weichai Holding; CGICOP-Bel, a subsidiary of the China Gansu International Corporation for Economic and Technical Cooperation in Belarus; ZTE Corporation;  China Railway No 9 Group Co Ltd.

The first shipment from China is expected to arrive in Minsk on 17 April. “It will be a special flight from Beijing to Minsk organized by the Belarusian Embassy in China,” Ambassador Cui Qiming said.

The cargo includes testing kits, respirators, medical masks, pulsoxymeters, medical protective suits, goggles, infrared thermometers, disposable medical gloves and more.

In addition, the cargo will also include aid from the provinces and cities of the People's Republic of China, which have established sisterly relations with the regions of Belarus. These are Gansu, Hubei, Henan, Hunan, Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Chongqing, Tianjin, Shanghai and others.
