China ready to increase investment in Belt and Road foreign markets

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – China is ready to increase investment in the foreign markets of the Belt and Road initiative, head of the China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Xu Rongmao said at the investment forum for companies of Belarus and China as part of the Belt and Road initiative in Minsk on 3 May, BelTA has learned.

According to Xu Rongmao, at the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation recently held in Beijing with the participation of the Belarusian delegation Chinese President Xi Jinping announced readiness to expand the import and export of goods and services. “This is China’s position on a global adoption of economic measures within the initiative,” said the head of the China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs.

He stressed the importance of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s participation in the first and second forums for international cooperation in Beijing. The Belarusian head of state was one of the first to support the Belt and Road initiative, Xu Rongmao said. Aleksandr Lukashenko views Belarus and China as all-weather friends.

According to Xu Rongmao, during his visit to Belarus in 2015 Xi Jinping visited the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone together with Aleksandr Lukashenko and named it a milestone project for bilateral cooperation. Today the park is home to 44 resident companies, and the activity of this project is entering a new level.

The head of the federation believes that the Belt and Road initiative will help address many global economic problems. “It is based on the principles of multilateral trade. Only through common efforts will we be able to address the problems facing the global economy,” Xu Rongmao said. In his words, China has signed over 170 agreements with more than 150 countries and international organizations as part of the Belt and Road initiative. The People’s Bank of China has financed over 100 projects in more than 70 countries and regions. Over 300,000 jobs have been created within the Belt and Road initiative so far.

Xu Rongmao added that the initiative has been gradually shifting from theory to practice. He emphasized Belarus’ contribution to the implementation of the initiative. He stressed the importance of Belarus’ stable social and economic development and a high scientific and education potential of Belarusian specialists. In his words, there are big prospects for joint implementation of various projects with Belarus.

The China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs unites 30,000 members from more than 200 countries and regions.
