Call to include humanitarian issues in digital agenda of Belarus-Russia Union State

Call to include humanitarian issues in digital agenda of Belarus-Russia Union State

MOSCOW, 22 November (BelTA) – Humanitarian issues should be included in the digital agenda, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Igor Petrishenko said at the forum “New vector of humanitarian partnership in the Union State” in Moscow on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

“Digitalization should become an integral part of humanitarian cooperation,” Igor Petrishenko noted.

According to the diplomat, digital economy is among top priorities in the Eurasian Economic Union. This matter is also extremely important for Belarus and Russia: the two countries have adopted relevant state programs and plans of action to implement the digital agenda. This is about meeting the needs of today rather than following the latest fad, the ambassador underlined.

In his opinion, the introduction of digital technologies in the humanitarian field has already brought certain results: electronic databases in museums and libraries, huge digital archives, online access to cultural events and library collections. This is not enough, however, Igor Petrishenko stressed. A seamless information space should be developed in the Union State with common approaches to the accumulation, use, and protection of information.

“Humanitarian cooperation in the digital age – this is what we should be talking about,” the diplomat summarized.

The forum “New vector of humanitarian partnership in the Union State” is running in Moscow from 22 to 23 November. It has drawn together representatives of the Belarusian and Russian humanitarian communities. They are discussing the issues of museums, libraries, publishing houses, and education. The conference is organized by the Union State Standing Committee and the international news agency Russia Today.
