Brexit expected to favorably influence Belarus-UK relations

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Brexit will favorably influence Belarus-UK relations if at all, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Fionna Gibb on 3 May.

Asked whether the Brexit process will influence Belarusian-British relations in any way, Fionna Gibb stressed: “I don’t think Brexit will somehow influence relations between the UK and Belarus. If it does, it will do so for the better. After Brexit the UK will be interested in bolstering its relations with other countries in every possible way, including relations with Belarus.”

The UK ambassador was asked a number of various questions, including questions concerning trade and economic relations, investment cooperation, and education projects.

The advantages of the five-day visa-free travel program introduced in Belarus were mentioned. “Visa-free travel is a very wise decision made by the Belarusian government. It also helps representatives of the British private sector, who can come to Belarus for business purposes without having to get visas,” said the ambassador.
