Belarusian-Russian army exercise Zapad 2017 described as test for regional military force

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Russian regional military force guarantees stability and tranquility in the region. The Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 tested new ways of using the regional military force in conditions of modern armed conflicts. These matters were discussed as part of the summarizing of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017, the Belarusian Defense Ministry press service told BelTA.

Belarusian Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Andrei Ravkov noted that the regional military force is a guarantor of stability and tranquility in the region. The Zapad 2017 exercise was kind of a test of new ways of using the regional military force in conditions of modern armed conflicts where many aspects of warfare are revealed from a new angle, said the official.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Belarusian army summed up results of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017. Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister, Major-General Oleg Belokonev and heads of the command and control organizations presented their reports. The latter analyzed preparations for and the actual progress of the Zapad 2017 exercise in their fields of expertise.

The Belarusian defense minister presented awards to the officers, who demonstrated outstanding performance during the Zapad 2017 exercise. More than 20 officers were promoted to the next ranks ahead of seniority requirements.

A joint session of the boards of the Belarusian and Russian defense ministries is supposed to produce the final summary of the exercise.
