Belarusian law enforcement agencies told to prevent violations of business regulations

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – Belarusian law enforcement agencies and oversight agencies have been instructed to prevent violations of business regulations instead of cracking down on them, BelTA learned from Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky on 7 December.

According to the source, the court system, the Interior Ministry, and the State Control will try to take preventive measures instead of cracking down on the consequences of legislation violations. Government agencies will focus on raising the awareness of the business community about proper business practices, added the economy minister.

Discussions with business associations are in progress on further steps to encourage private business development and implement the Entrepreneurship Development Ordinance.

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus took note of the Entrepreneurship Development Ordinance on 7 December. The document provides for radically remodeling how government agencies and the private sector interact. It aims to minimize the interference of government officials with the operation of commercial entities in addition to encouraging business self-regulation and increasing the responsibility of private companies before the general public. Government agencies retain a minimal level of oversight.
