Belarusian biathletes share impressions after first race in IBU Open European Championships

Belarusian biathletes share impressions after first race in IBU Open European Championships

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian biathletes Raman Yaliotnau and Sergei Bocharnikov talked to reporters after their first race during the IBU Open European Championships at the Raubichi Olympic Training Center near Minsk on 20 February, BelTA has learned.

Raman Yaliotnau and Sergei Bocharnikov stand 15th and 16th respectively after today’s Men 20km Individual race.

Raman Yaliotnau said: “I think I scored some points at the start of the competition in my home country. Certainly, I didn’t shoot well but I think I demonstrated rather a good result thanks to speed. Besides, I wanted to show what I am capable of in front of Belarusian fans.”

“The route of the individual race for Belarusian biathletes was not complicated. For instance, uphill slopes were way harder during summer competitions in Raubichi,” Sergei Bocharnikov noted. “Before the European championships the route of the individual race was corrected, steep ascents were removed. Such a route suits me. ”

According to Sergei Bocharnikov, he does not plan for medals in advance. “We adjust plans as we go. It was difficult to fight for medals today with this kind of shooting. But we’ve made it to the top 20,” he added.

The IBU Open European Championships will continue later today with a Women 15km Individual race.
