Belarus welcomes world leaders’ contacts to ease political tensions

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – Belarus welcomes contacts between world leaders aimed at easing political tensions, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the ONT TV channel on 22 July.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump held talks in Helsinki on 16 July. “We welcome any contacts between world leaders that are aimed at easing tensions and confrontation in world politics,” Vladimir Makei laid out Minsk’s vision.

Peace, stability and security win in any case. Even if there are any political, trade and economic difficulties in the relations between countries, coalitions, there is no other way out as to engage in dialogue,” the minister stressed.

As was reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated after the talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that the US relationship with Russia had never been worse than it was until the Russian-U.S. summit in Helsinki. Russian President Vladimir Putin was satisfied with the results of the talks with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump. He called them successful and useful and took note of their open and businesslike atmosphere. The leaders discussed the current state and prospects of the Russian-U.S. relations, the key issues of the international agenda.
