Belarus viewed as important Silk Road hub in Europe

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus is an important hub of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Cui Qiming said at the international conference “The Belt and the Road: Opportunities for Belarus”, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that the initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt has been put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping and has been widely picked up in the world, including in Belarus. “China and Belarus are true friends and good partners. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 25 years ago, the parties have achieved great results in mutual cooperation,” the Chinese Ambassador said.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that last year the interaction between Belarus and China rose to an unprecedented high level, which was made possible largely thanks to the relationship of trust between the leaders of the two states.

“Belarus is an important hub of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Europe. It has a unique geographical position and also economic and cultural advantages.

Belarus is part of the Eurasian Economic Union, is located at the junction with the European Union. The country is attractive due to its social stability, well-developed infrastructure, including transport. Belarus is really one of the most important hubs in the Silk Road Economic Belt.”

Ambassador Cui Qiming believes that One Belt, One Road is a large-scale project that holds great promise and is mutually beneficial to all parties.

The international conference is hosted by Belarusian State University. It has been organized with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, the Economy Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences and the Confucius Institute for Sinology. Its main objective is to determine the impact of the One Belt One Road project initiated by the Chinese leadership on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Belarus and China in trade, investment, science and humanitarian affairs.
