MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) - Belarus is an active and respected participant in the international cooperation movement, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev to the media on 30 March, BelTA has learned.

“As chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, as a Russian citizen, I am very grateful to the leadership of Belarus for its persistent position and confirmation of its active participation in the CIS, EAEU and CSTO. Belarus is committed to close cooperation within these three integration associations. In addition, we are sincerely glad that Belarus is likely to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the upcoming meeting, the SCO summit. This speaks to the high standing of Belarus as a country. The Belarusian president’s recent visit to China has once again proved that Belarus actively participates in international cooperation, and we cannot but rejoice at that,” Sergei Lebedev said.

“We are brothers, and peace, stability and prosperity of brothers is sacred for us. We are united, and this is the most important thing. This unity, in my opinion, cannot be destroyed. At least, the president of Belarus and other officials of the country say that we have always been and will remain together. That is the most important thing,” Sergei Lebedev added.

A joint session of the CIS plenipotentiaries and the Commission on Economic Issues at the CIS Economic Council is taking place at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 30 March. Eight issues are on the agenda. They include the draft agenda for the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, an analysis of the preparations for the next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, the progress made to fulfill the roadmap for the implementation of initiatives put forward by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council, Heads of Government Council, Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Economic Council.
