DUSHANBE, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus has been and remains an important partner for Tajikistan. Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon made the relevant statement after negotiations with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 15 May, BelTA has learned.

The Tajik head of state said: “For Tajikistan Belarus has been and remains an important partner in the system of international relations. Relations between the two countries are on the rise.”

In his words, the negotiations focused on the development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation. Ways to increase the volume and diversify the structure of the bilateral trade were discussed. “Growing trade trends of the last few years indicate the large potential of our countries,” noted Emomali Rahmon.

The Tajikistan president said: “We’ve agreed to encourage investments into the establishment of effective joint enterprises by every means possible, including in our free economic zones. We’ve agreed to continue working to enable favorable conditions for the work of Tajik and Belarusian investors. The advancement of manufacturing cooperation between Tajikistan and Belarus meets interests of the sides and represents a factor in filling our economic relations with practical content.”

Broad opportunities for manufacturing cooperation are available in the sphere of agribusiness, timber and paper industry, petrochemical industry, and a number of other spheres. “In this context we’ve determined agribusiness, mechanical engineering, production of medications, light and food industries as promising avenues of cooperation,” said Emomali Rahmon.
