MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in expanding interparliamentary cooperation with Ukraine, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said at the meeting with Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Mikhail Yezhel on 19 September, BelTA has learnt.
Vladimir Andreichenko stated that over the last 1.5-2 years Belarus-Ukraine interparliamentary cooperation has made little headway. To a certain extent this was attributed to the elections in both countries.
“We are interested in boosting the cooperation. The National Assembly will do its best to contribute to this process. In the nearest future we are planning to hold a session of the interparliamentary commission for cooperation between the National Assembly of Belarus and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in Kiev,” Vladimir Andreichenko said. The speaker underlined that members of the National Assembly attach much importance to the cooperation with their Ukrainian colleagues.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus said, in turn, that Belarus-Ukraine cooperation has been extremely vigorous, although the bilateral cooperation still has plenty of reserves.
By now Belarus and Ukraine have signed about 170 bilateral international agreements and other international legal documents. Belarus views Ukraine as one of the top-priority partners in economy and foreign policy. Bilateral political relations are characterized by stable positive dynamics; a high-level dialogue has been established.
